BAM! POW! Fan Films Battle for Prizes!

Metropolis, Illinois

The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce is looking for the best fan-made superhero films for its 8th Annual Superman Celebration Fan Film Festival and Competition.

The festival is open to family-friendly fan films of 18 minutes or less that are about superheroes or supervillains from any comics, film, television, or literary franchise. Films about original characters are also welcome.  Professional and amateur filmmakers from around the world are invited to participate. This is no fee to enter.

“Since it premiered in 2008, the Superman Celebration Fan Film Festival has grown to become an integral part of Superman Celebration,” says Tim Brown, coordinator of the Film Festival. “The Celebration organizers really wanted to expand and highlight the film festival, so, for our eighth year, they increased the dollar amount of the prizes awarded and made some exciting changes to the awards categories.”

The competition is divided into three categories, with the winning filmmakers taking home $300 and a trophy. Honorable mention winners will receive a Superman Celebration gift bag. Returning this year are the Best Comedy and Best Drama categories. A brand new category, the Best “Super Grab Bag” Fan Film, has been introduced for the 2015 competition.

“We wanted to shake things up a bit this year, so we came up with a new category that we thought would make the festival more fun, exciting,  and definitely more challenging,” says Brown. “The ‘Super Grab Bag’ category has three mandatory, off-the-wall elements that must be included in the film. This year’s challenge is to make a superhero-related fan film that includes a mop, an avocado, and a dentist. We’ve always been impressed with the creativity that filmmakers exhibit every year in their entries. We can’t wait to see what they will do with this challenge. ”

The films submitted for the 8th annual event will be screened at Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois, which will take place June 12th through 15th, 2015. The winners of the competition will be announced at a special awards ceremony during the festival.  Filmmakers do not have to be present to win.

More information about the Superman Celebration Fan Film Festival and Competition, including entry rules and submission instructions, can be found at www.supermancelebration.net.  The deadline for entry is May 8th, 2015.

Superman Celebration attracts around 40,000 fans from around the world every year. It is sponsored by the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce and the City of Metropolis, Illinois and is held annually during the second weekend in June.  The festival features celebrity appearances, comics artists and writers, musical acts, a costume contest, and a wide array of programming for superhero fans of all ages.
