The purpose of the festival is to promote queer cinema, performing arts, fine arts, literature and music. Traditionally, we open the festival with an exhibition. It defies any parochialism, especially in terms of gender and sexual orientation. ‘Queer’ originally means ‘odd’, but also ‘faggot’. Strangelove embraced the term as a badge of honor. Strangelove not only presents artistic work, but also functions as a creative platform for artists and activists exploring themes such as transgender, man/woman imaging, gender roles, feminism, sexual orientation, sexuality, counter culture and the political and social status of LGBTIQ people.
