January 31st was the day the world lost Rob Stewart. We want to take a moment to remember all the good he did — through his films Sharkwater, Revolution and Sharkwater Extinction, books, photographs, public appearances and magazine stories— and through the many people he inspired and the millions of sharks who have been saved and continue to be saved due to his tireless work to protect the creatures he loved.

Rob was beloved by many and it was clear that behind his calm demeanor lay a passion for life and everyone around him. We miss his charisma, his laughter, his hugs and his belief that changing the world could be fun. He devoted his life to making a difference, and the effects of that are still felt today as new laws are passed to protect sharks, and new marine parks expanded to give them a place where they can be safe.

As he once said: “If you think of the ingenuity in the world and if you think about putting together seven billion beautiful minds to think about an issue and solve a problem, we can do it.”

Rob, your presence and passion will never be forgotten — we vow to continue the work that you began when you first set out to make Sharkwater.
