Sir Ben Kingsley presents '50 Dead Men' at the Seville Festival and receives the Gold Giraldillo

The British actor, Sir Ben Kingsley, presented his latest film, '50 Dead Men', at the Seville Festival. The film was chosen to close the Gala organized in his honour to award him the Gold Giraldillo in recognition of his professional career.

Speaking of his latest film, Sir Ben Kingsley said that it had been very well received in Great Britain because 'although it deals with a very recent problem, people have been able to see many changes and we can see it as a closed chapter'. He also mentioned the force of the story which shows aspects such as 'male vulnerability, loyalty and friendship'.

The British actor also had time to recall some of his most memorable performances. In the first place, he recalled his participation in 'Gandhi', which is still shown as a symbol for the peace movement. He mentioned a screening of the film several years ago in a Palestinian refugee camp at which, while not wanting to compare Indian independence with present day Palestine, 'many young people came to ask me what the Palestinian Gandhi would be like'.

On his visit to Seville he also took the opportunity to talk about Spanish cinema. He recalled his work in 'Elegy', directed by Isabel Coixet, who was present at the tribute, and with Penélope Cruz in the cast, as one of the roles in which he has felt most comfortable.

Also, he emphasized his interest in Spanish cinema, naming directors such as Pedro Almodóvar or Carlos Saura, and he expressed his interest in working in Spain in the future. 'It would be interesting to explore a possible co-production between the U.K. and Spain, to make a film about something relevant to Spain', he remarked.

Sir Ben Kingsley said that he is in a 'happy' moment in his career and that he is always interested in filming when he finds films that give him 'a sense of urgency to tell that story'.
