Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Ron Gilbert

I am now living in the heart of the film industry and have been involved in the film and theates industry for almost 50 years.I started out in New York City which was where the acting scene at the Actors Studio (I am a lifetime member) included Robert DeNiro,Dustin Hoffman ,Al Pacino,Robert Duval and other name actors like Martin Landau ,Rod Steiger,Shelley Winters,Paul Newman,Ben Gazzara and the list goes on. That was then and the picture has changed. A stage play in New York names a name Hollywood actor to make a profit. The independent film scene has also changed. Steven Soderbergh commented on that recently at the San Francisco International Film Festival and major companies have taken over the studios.

I still work as an actor in commercials,TV and mostly independent films. I ahve worked with the major directors like Francis Ford Coppola,Sydney Lumet, and  Bryan Singer whom I met on his first feature and the relationship is same even now.

Currently I can be seen on reruns, commercials, short films and indie films.

We are currently shooting this web series

Catfish is a very fishy film

Catfish is a veryfishy film

By Ron Gilbert

Facebook has taken over our lives. Will you ever find truelove or your soulmate? Is what you believe to be real? Or is it a figment ofyour imagination? Please do not watch the trailer of this movie. You will findit to be a very good one and it will lead you astray. I try never to watchtrailers or read press kits before I see a film

Now let’s get real personal .Back in the day, a Dutch femalesent me an email from a website on which I had written an article called the “AnActors Journey”. She wanted to come to Gollywood and become an actress. So wechatted and I was very honest and truthful and we became friends even after Itold her about the realities of show business. One day our internet connectioncrashed and she immediately phoned me from Amsterdam.I was very surprised but we talked for hours and gradually we fell in love .Ofcourse we had exchanged real pictures of each other. In Catfish that is not so true.Even though there are pictures of real people. .Anyway our relationshipblossomed and she wanted to visit Hollywoodand did just that I picked her up at LAX and was 30 minutes late. She lookedeven better in person but after 3 weeks the relationship ended because hadpersonality conflicts and argued too much

So in the film Catfish, the relationship is a fantasy. Theonly characters who are really portraying themselves are the co-directors HenryJoost and Ariel Schulman and Ariel’s brother Nev.who is the romantic interest? Nevstarts this internet chat with a young girl from Michigannamed Abby about her paintings but the older sexy sister Megan intercedes asthe love interest, Of course their mother Angela and a wealth of Megan’sfriends all join in. Has Megan fallen in love with Nev?Is the younger daughter a gifted artist?. Where are horses that Megan is ridingin photographs on Facebook? We have all seen photos of people on Facebook butare they real?

So the filmmakers in Catfish make the trek from NewYork to Michiganso that the lovers can actually meet, and we can have a HOLLYWOODending.

Will it be like  ameeting of lovers like the films Casablanca or West Side Story or Cyrano deBergerac or Sleepless in Seattle or is it The Phantom of the Opera or TheHunchback of Notre Dame or maybe King Kong. What about the film Misery. Perhapsthey never saw the Alfred Hitchcock film.”Psycho” .Maybe this title of the filmshould have been “Rebels with a Cause”.

Well these film rebels should been more rebellious whentheir search brought up so many surprises and since they want to take risks andfind an ending or a climax for their film, they continued on their journey as youwill see but you must stay unto the last scene when the husband of Angels philosophizesthe wonders of the catfish and

I would friend them on Facebook, They have accomplishedtheir Hollywood Dream.
