NOW OPEN: Transmedia Submissions for Storyworlds

Storyworlds15

The Portland Film Festival is now accepting submissions for Storyworlds, a program that highlights storytellers who create immersive narrative experiences that connect with audiences in new ways.

Are you a storyteller who uses new technology platforms to create immersive or interactive narratives? It doesn't matter if you're using games, 360 degree videos for Cardboard VR, mobile apps, social media characters, or alternate reality games played in physical locations. We are looking for immersive or transmedia stories that come from the future.

"When storytellers get inspired by emerging technology to tell stories in new ways, it's like glimpsing into the future," said Mike Vogel, the director of Storyworlds for the Portland Film Festival. "We want to highlight the types of stories and immersive experiences no one has ever seen before."

Last year's Storyworlds panel highlighted video games (Steve Gaynor, "Gone Home"), webseries (Mercedes Rose, "Haunting of Sunshine Girl"), interactive storytelling for the web (Rachel Nabors, "Tin Magpie"), and alternate reality games (Eesmyal Santos-Brault, "eXistenZ Inspired ARG").

Submit your immersive or transmedia story by June 1st, 2015.

MovieMaker Magazine named our festival one of the "25 coolest film festivals in the world," so get your submission in before time runs out. And we hope to see you in September. Portland is an amazing city during the summer—you'll not want to miss what we're planning this year.

Past attendees and alumni include Eli Roth, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Abby Elliott, Chris Williams, Chuck Palahniuk, Jason Mamoa, Doug Benson, Wendy Froud, Brian Froud, Toby Froud, Penny Lane, Chelsea Cain, Daniel Wilson, Chelsey Reist, Isaac Feder, James Franco, Lorenza Izzo, Matt Walsh, Susan Sarandon, Michael Tully, Ryan Murdock, Kelly Reichardt, Kris Kaczor, Bryan Storkel, Leah Warshawski, Daryl Hannah, Vivian Norris, Karney Hatch, Jon Matthews, Dana Nachman, Mitchell Jackson, John Jeffcoat, Shawn Telford, Leah Meyerhoff, Mark Raso, David Zellner, Bradley King and more.
