Philip K Dick Film FestivalThe mission of the Philip K. Dick Film Festival is to promote original or adapted material inspired by the works of Philip K. Dick, Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino, Robert Anton Wilson, Franz Kafka and others who have explored the metaphysical, the eerie in all its manifestations. We look at films that push the cinematic form to new levels of creativity and originality without sacrificing narrative cohesion and with an eye to the ineffable. We look at films that challenge the viewers reality with ideas and concepts not normally found in conventional stories. All genres are welcome 2 Annual: December 05, 2013 to December 08, 2013Open call for submissions for the Second Philip K Dick Film Festival New York December 5-8,2013
The Second Annual Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival is accepting entries via Withoutabox. The festival is the first in the five boroughs devoted to science and science fiction. Named for the iconic novelist and short story writer whose work inspired the films Blade Runner, Total Recall and Minority Report, the four-day event aims to start a tradition of honoring films inspired by authors who have explored the metaphysical and eerie in all its manifestations. Possible themes include
cyberpunk, dystopian realities, paranoia, altered states, and singularities. Science/science fiction documentaries, features and shorts are accepted. A variety of competitive awards are available, including Best Dramatic, Best Science Fiction Feature, Best Web Series, Best Trailer, and Best Documentary, among others. A new competition this year will be for the 48 Hour Best Philip K. Dick Short Adaptation. The First Philip K. Dick Festival brought in phenomenal crowds, including standing room attendance to see Radio Free Albemuth, based on the Philip K. Dick feature novel, starring Jonathan Scarfe and music sensation Alanis Morissette. Some of the panelists included noted scientist Ronald Mallett, distinguished writer Walter Mosley, co-writer of the ReAnimator films Dennis Paoli and UFO experts Richard Dolan and Peter Robbins. Panels at this year's festival will include such topics as psychic/superconscious children, the singularity, transhumanism, media influence, the science of tomorrow, cryonics, borderland sciences and anomalous aerial phenomena (AAP) as well as extending invitations to authors who have written extensively on Philip K. Dick. New features for this year's festival include an extensive graphic novel and comic book section to accompany the film screenings and panels. For more information on the Philip K.
