Film noir comeback “Dead on Arrival” by Stephen C. SepherStephen C. Sepher revamps 1950’s classic film “D.O.A” about a man’s pursuit of who poisoned him and why. Starring actor Billy Flynn, (best known from the television soap opera "Days of Our Lives") playing the role of Sam Collins, a pharmaceutical rep, traveling to a small town in Louisiana to close the deal of a lifetime with Dr. Alexander, a doctor specializing in Vaccine research. Following New Year’s Eve party, Sam is as good as dead after being a victim of a slow acting poison for which there is no antidote. The 24-hour life he has remains to find out who wanted his death, with the help of a local girl, Jessie. She leads Sam to a voodoo priestess that confirms his doomed fate. There seems to be a curse on him: several people lose their lives, accidentally or not, and everything seems to relate to his quest. “Louisiana is a marvelous state for the unexpected” says Dr. Alexander in Sam’s desperate search for answers. The plot involves crime, passion, gangland, and corruption. With no one to trust, Sam tries to escape from the mob and a dishonest sheriff who wants him dead. The film revives the ordinary man caught in an unfortunate event rather than a super hero that seeks revenge fighting everyone involved in his tragic fate. The tale is irresistible from the first scene onward as Sam almost crashes his car due to the deadly substance in his body. A stunning cinematography including beautiful arial shots, combined with a lot of ambiente sound, gives the plot the urgency that it needs. With an ensemble cast staring actor nominated for an Emmy, Billy Flynn, actress Christa B. Allen known for "Revenge", Chris Mulkey (“Whiplash”) and veteran actor D.B. Sweeney (“CHI-RAQ”) the story was able to lift the often wanting dialogue. The film premiered at the Rhode Island International Film festival on August 11, 2017.
