Argentinean filmmakers from internationaly acclaimes "Las Acacias" visit Lithuania

On the 4th of October Kaunas International Film Festival premiered the Argentinian film “Las Acacias” from the Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year. During the screenings of the film in Kaunas and Vilnius the festival audience had the opportunity to meet both the director Pablo Giorgelli and the editor Maria Astrauskas.

The director Pablo Giorgelli debut film “Las Acacias”was awarded with the Camera D’or award at the Cannes Film Festival 2011 and selected as the Best Film both by the Jury of Directors and the Young film critics.

Las Acacias” follows the story of truck driver Ruben and his passenger with a baby on their trip to Buenos Aires. The recognition of the film greatness, lays in the director and editor’s ability to subtly reveal the inner worlds of the two lonely few-worded characters.

According to the festival organisers it is a great pleasure to present this film in Lithuania, noting the fact that the films editor and as well the directors wife Maria Astrauskas has Lithuanian roots and is visiting the country for the first time. Maria Astrauskas grandfather was born near Kaunas. He emigrated at the age of 17 to Argentina, the country where his sister Maria Obelenitte already fled to after a runaway from an arranged unwanted marriage

Maria Astrauskas said: „It is symbolic that one of the motives in the film is the attempt to redeem the connection. It‘s a road film, combining a couple of opportunities: to newly discover the things you have lost and to understand, that they were never lost at all“.
