ABEL FERRARA AWARDED BY THE ISCHIA FILM FESTIVAL

Abel Ferrara wins the “Ciak di Corallo” for his career achievements at the Ischia Film Festival seventh edition (July 5-11), the only international contest dedicated to the filming locations. The American director, born July 19 1951 in the Bronx, will receive the cinema’s world tribute thanks to his work, that has always been visionary, original and restless in a unique way in the international movie scene. The Ischia Film Festival will present a short preview of Ferrara’s docufiction exclusive premiere “Napoli, Napoli, Napoli”. It is not only a city portrait but also a deep glance at its humanity, which is so brutal and vital, still passionate and cruel at the same time. A link between two dark souls: the Naples Bronx meets the real New York Bronx, where Ferrara was born and raised. “Naples is an exciting and dramatic town as many others metropolis in the world” said the fifty-eight-years-old film maker “also a unique city like no other”.This film, that will probably be presented at the Venice Festival, was born out of a collaboration between the director of “Bad Lieutenant” and Gaetano di Vaio, an ex Neapolitan micro-criminal. Gaetano di Vaio, once out of the thug life, decided to be socially involved in his town’s slums, creating an association called “Bronx Sons”, with the purpose of restricting the juvenile delinquency.Abel Ferrara’s most popular works are “Fear City” (1984), “The Funeral” (1996), “Bad Lieutenant” (1992) “The Addiction” (1994), “New Rose Hotel” (1998). At the Ischia Film Festival previous editions the “Ciak di Corallo” has been assigned to Sir Ken Adam, Shaila Rubin, Vittorio Storaro, Krzysztof Zanussi, Giuliano Montaldo, and Osvaldo Desideri.
