Spaniards at the Oscars©
On Sunday Spanish cinema lovers will be glue to the TV screen to see if our two options for winning a new Academy Award come true. Goya winners Chico&Rita and Alberto Iglesias are our candidates. Chico&Rita is nominated in the best animated film category and Alberto Iglesias in the best Original Score for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Academy Award winner, Fernado Trueba is leading the production of Chico&Rita with Estudio Mariscal and Magic Ligh Pictures (Reino Unido). Bebo Valdes signs the music of this love story between a pianist and a singer in the 40-50´s La Habana-New York.
Other nominees are Puss in boots, Kung Fu Panda 2, Rango and a Cat in Paris.
Alberto Iglesias will be competting for the Oscar against John Williams, twice this year (Tintin and War Horse), Ludovic Bource (The Artist). Howard Shore (Hugo). Midnight in Paris is also a Spanish film. OK, It´sthe same old story…American director, international cast and shot in Paris…but made with a Spanish production, Mediapro.
Anyway it´s got 3 nominations Best Film, Best Director, Best original Screenplay.
