Goya Awards

The Goya Awards, known in Spanish as los Premios Goya, are Spain's main national film awards, considered the Spanish equivalent to the American Academy Awards. The awards were established in 1987, a year after the founding of the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España, and the first awards ceremony took place on March 16, 1987 at the Teatro Lope de Vega, Madrid.

The ceremony continues to take place annually around the end of January, and awards are given to films produced during the previous year. The award itself is a small bronze bust of Francisco de Goya created by the sculptor José Luis Fernández.

And the winner is CELDA 211 !!!!!

Last night in Madrid we attended the Goya 2010 Gala where Celda 211 the prison drama film directed by Daniel Monzón became the greatest winner with 8 awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress.

(see the winners list below)The night´s fight was against, Alejandro Amenábar´s Agora who ended up with 7 Goyas but most of them in technical categories. No big surprises with the winners but there were a couple. One is that Oscar winner and nominee Penelope Cruz was with her boyfriend Oscar winner Javier Bardem and the other was that on the greatests Spanish Cinema Celebration, we received a big surprise when Pedro Almodóvar appeared on stage to give the price to the Best Film. Knowing that he´ll be handing Best Foreing Film Oscar next March, how come this is a surprise? Because he had disagreements with the Academy years ago and he never returned. So great news. The show was funny and very well led by Buenafuente and it turned out as the most followed edition ever. The Winners list BEST FILM  - Celda 211
