Future of Cinema Salon @ Cannes: Interactive Cinema WorkshopFuture of Film Salon @ Cannes
Interactive Cinema Workshop
Short Film Corner
Date & Time: TBD
1 hour
From Janet Murray's Holodeck to Lev Manovich's Database Cinema, the interactive narrative represents the "holy grail" of the interactive medium. For some, the pleasure derived from interactive stories is found in the theorizing of them. For others such pleasure has yet to be found in mainstream practice.
Indeed, today, most traditional entertainment companies are focussed on the distribution possibilities of the interactive medium alone, paying close attention to the creation of short-form, linear, non-interactive stories for web and mobile delivery. Neither the experiments in research labs, nor the "movies on mobile" really explain what we can expect from this potential form of interactive entertainment -- the mainstream interactive narrative experience. What is it? Is it even possible? Are there any good examples of it? This hour-long workshop will look at best practice examples of interactive cinema from around the world. And will carefully deconstruct the creation of some of them paying close attention to how such interactive films get made -- the development & production process; the tools & platforms used for creation; and their distribution.

Interactive Cinema
Hindsight is wonderful but wouldn't foresight be just the best. I can tell you that in the last 5 or so years we at Cosmos Productions have been developing an interactive cinema system called Cosmos Interactive Cinema System, or just CICS. We have succesffully developed hardware and software that is ready for production. We are in the process of obtaining investors to move forward and unveil this 'natural evolution' of cinema entertainment.
We will have an interactive movie in production by the end of this year and once experienced people will be quoting, 'in hindsight.....'.
If you're in the industry and want to know more please email us at administration@cosmosproductions.com
