Wall Street closing Zurich

Premiered in the German language version, Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” starring Michael Douglas, will be screened as the Zurich Film Festival’s Closing Night Film on Sunday evening, October 3, 2010.

Michael Douglas will receive the Golden Icon Award for his life’s work prior to the screening. His school day friend Danny DeVito will accept the award for Douglas, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

In addition to Danny DeVito, “Wall Street” Director Oliver Stone, the film’s Producer Edward Pressman, and director and “A Tibute To…” guest Milos Forman, who shares a long-term friendship with Douglas and DeVito, will also attend the Closing Night celebrations. Oliver Stone and Ed Pressman return as friends of the festival. Stone was the 2007 “A Tribute To…” guest and Pressman chaired the 2006 Jury. Sandra Studer will present the evening.

Douglas and Danny DeVito have enjoyed a close private and professional bond since sharing a room together as students. DeVito’s role in “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest” was one of his first ever appearances on film. Milos Forman’s masterpiece brought its producer Michael Douglas an Oscar for Best Film and Forman an Oscar for Best Director. The Film will be screened at the Zurich Film Festival in the Milos Forman “A Tribute To…” series.

Douglas and DeVito starred alongside each other in the 80s adventure films, “Romancing the Stone” and “The Jewel of the Nile.” Douglas played the leading character in DeVito’s conjugal drama “The War of the Roses” (1989). Michael Douglas received the Oscar® for Best Actor for his role as the investment banker Gordon Gekko in the film “Wall Street” (1987). He once again slips into the suit of his successful character Gordon Gekko in his latest film “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”

The plot ties in with its predecessor film “Wall Street” as financial fraudster Gordon Gekko is released from prison. Using his experience as a stock market guru, he now earns his money as a speaker and interview guest. Gekko can’t help himself when events begin to precipitate in the financial market. Shia LaBeouf, Susan Sarandon, Frank Langella, Eli Wallach and Charlie Sheen play alongside Michael Douglas in the film. Zurich, Switzerland’s financial metropolis plays a small cameo role.

Tickets for the “Golden Icon” award presentation to Michael Douglas, to be accepted by Danny Devito, and the subsequent screening of the film premiere “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” are available for general purchase. The Zurich Film Festival will present a special screening of “Wall Street” from 1987.

“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” will hit Swiss-German cinemas on October 21, 2010.
