UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ
JOSEPH WILSON JOINS CINEMA LIBRE INTERNATIONAL AT CANNES FOR THEATRICAL DEBUT
Former acting U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, JOSEPH WILSON, will be attending the world premiere of 2004’s most talked-about documentary, UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ. Wilson sparked an international firestorm when he revealed to the New York Times that the Bush Administration’s claims about Saddam Hussein seeking to acquire uranium from Niger were false. Wilson, by special request, will attend an international press-only screening at CAPE (Centre d’Accueil de la Press Etrangere) on Monday, May 17 at 3:00pm in Paris, France. Wilson will then attend the world premiere in Cannes, France during Le Festival de Cannes on Tuesday, May 18 at 5:30pm at ARCADES- 1 (77, rue Felix Faure).
UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ will open in the US on August 13 in New York City during the Republican National Convention.
Wilson became a household name after accusing the Administration of manipulating intelligence to bolster its case for war. The recently published, "The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity,” recounts the attempts made to discredit and intimidate him by deliberately leaking the identity of his wife as a CIA covert operative. As a result, Wilson continues to speak out against the Bush Administration. He has participated in Greenwald’s documentary,
“UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ,” which features in-depth interviews with former CIA analysts, Pentagon and Foreign Service experts and former weapons inspectors, including an exclusive interview with DAVID KAY (former Chief U.S. Weapons Inspector in Iraq). “I’ve believed ever since I started that it is important to speak out on this,” said Wilson in a recent interview. “The integrity of the government and the integrity of the reasons that underpinned the going to war were suspect,’ he added.
Following the screening of the feature film at Cannes, Wilson will join representatives from CINEMA LIBRE INTERNATIONAL on a panel to address the international audience of media, buyers and film executives.
The film, which has already generated a tremendous word-of-mouth “buzz” based on over 3,000 “underground” house-party screenings of a shorter version in the U.S., will follow its New York opening with runs in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C, the week of August 20. Thereafter, the film will run in every state through the end of 2004.
Greenwald, who partnered with MoveOn.Org and the Center for American Progress to produce the film, also joined with Cinema Libre Studio/International for worldwide distribution rights. “When Cinema Libre Studio approached me to take this film theatrically worldwide, I knew I had a found another like-minded partner...they bring a European perspective to the project,” said Greenwald. “They have innovative ideas about how to exhibit the film to international audiences based on over twenty years of experience in production, exhibition and distribution.”
