Tribute to Nanouk Leopold and Stienette Bosklopper at Crossing Europe

Crossing Europe Filmfestival will dedicate a tribute to two prominent film personalities from the Netherlands: director Nanouk Leopold and producer Stienette Bosklopper (Circe Films), who have collaborated frequently during the past ten years. The festival takes place in Linz, Austria, April 12 -17.

Every year Crossing Europe offers a programme with the best contemporary auteur cinema from Europe. A permanent feature of the programme is the Tribute section, dedicated to innovative European film professionals. Previous tributes include surveys of work by Koktebel Film Company (2010), Ursula Maier and Lionel Baier (2009).

This year's Tribute to Nanouk Leopold and Stienette Bosklopper, presented with support from EYE Film Institute Netherlands, includes eight programmes that show how they both stand for an innovative, artistically outstanding auteur cinema. Crossing Europe opens with the latest result of their collaboration: BROWNIAN MOVEMENT, a film that has featured at various prestigious international film festivals, such as Toronto and Berlin.

Other titles in the Tribute are Nanouk Leopold's  and Stienette Bosklopper's ÎLES FLOTTANTES, GUERNSEY and WOLFSBERGEN. Also included in the programme are the Circe productions CALIMUCHO by director Eugenie Jansen and the international co-productions THE HAPPIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD directed by Radu Jude and OUR GRAND DESPAIR by Seyfi Teoman. Furthermore there will be a short film programme.

Stienette Bosklopper is the managing director of the Amsterdam-based Circe Films, producing feature films for the national and international market. Since 1996, Bosklopper has been establishing enduring relationships with unique and innovative filmmakers, both at home and abroad. Outstanding festivals like Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Rotterdam and Pusan have chosen Circe's projects, productions and co-productions.

Director/screenwriter Nanouk Leopold graduated from The Netherlands Film Academy in 1997. She made various short movies before she wrote and directed her first feature film ÎLES FLOTTANTES in 2001. The follow up came in 2005 with GUERNSEY which was selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateur in Cannes. Both her third film WOLFSBERGEN (2007) and fourth film BROWNIAN MOVEMENT (2010) screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Berlinale. In Leopold's films dialogue is sparse, she allows facial expressions and body language to convey the drama of a situation. In her films she explores the relationships between people and how far you can stretch them before they break. Leopold is currently working on her new project IT'S ALL SO QUIET.

Nanouk Leopold and Stienette Bosklopper will both be present at the Crossing Europe Filmfestival.
