FANTASPORTO AWARDS 2011
The year 2011 proves to be a year of discoveries. The Dutch film "Two Eyes Staring" born of a conversation between director Elbert Van Strien and his therapist won the Grand Prix best Film Award of the 31st edition of International Film Festival of Porto, and also the Award for Best Screenplay. This is a sophisticated psychological thriller with shades of horror about how we deform the reality from what we see. With a surreal atmosphere, surrounded by seemingly normal, a reminder of the films by David Lynch or Alfred Hitchcock.
"A Serbian Film" won the Special Jury Prize, it left no one not indifferent, including the jury.
The South Korea's master Kim Jee Woon, already a winner of Fantasporto in 2004 with "A Tale of Two Sisters", returns with a tale of revenge. The genre reaches a new level and the concept of revenge is taken to an extreme. Two juries recognized the importance of film. The Jury of the Official Fantasy Section gave it the Best Director Award, while the Jury of the Orient Express (Xosé Carlos Fernandez - Spanish producer, Stephan Weiz - German distributor and François Casales - Belgian journalist) awarded it the prize for Best Film .
The 21st Week had also an eastern accent. The Directors’ Week Award / Manoel de Oliveira award went "The Housemaid" by Im Sang-Soo, a film that also has won awards for best actor and actress. The return of South Korean cinema to suspense and sensuality. An explosive mix of oriental eroticism and extreme psychological violence .
The aidience of Fantasporto 2011 surrendered to the latest film from French director and producer Luc Besson and gave it The Audience Award Discovered by Fantasporto in 1984 with his first film "Le Dernier Combat" (Grand Prize Best Film Award, Best Director and Audience Awards that year), Luc Besson has become but one of the most remarkable European filmmakers and producers with movies such as "Nikita", "Leon the Professional", "The 5th Element", among others. "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc Sec” is an adventure film about an intrepid journalist who, besides writing, is also part of the news, fighting mummies in Egypt as in Paris, a real Indiana Jones. The film is distributed by Zon Lusomundo in Portugal, so soon will debut in theaters.
