The 12th Nordic Film Market begins!

On Thursday, another 250 guests will arrive to the Göteborg International Film Festival as well as to the 12th edition of the Nordic Film Market, the leading market for Nordic film. This year, 28 films and future projects from the Nordic countries will be presented to international buyers, distributors and festival programmers.

– It is particularly gratifying that we’re able to present a seminar for the movie industry on international film distribution. The film industry has undergone major changes in recent years, it has become harder to introduce films to the international market. However, at the same time, genres such as Nordic Crime face never before seen success. We have invited some of Europe's most experienced film buyers and sellers to tell us more", says Cia Edström, program director of the Nordic Film Market.

This year's films on the market include Happy, Happy by Anne Sewitzky (Norway), who just won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, She Monkeys by Lisa Aschan (Sweden), Brim of Árni Oli Ásgeirsson (Iceland) and King of Devil's Island by Marius Holst (Norway). All of the above compete for the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film.

Other recent films include Rebounce by Heidi Maria Faisst, Skyscraper by Rune Schjøtt from Denmark and the Norwegian film The Mountain by Ole Giæver, all of which will compete in various sections in Berlin.

In the section Work in Progress there are both new as well as established directors to be found, including the Swedish The Hunters (working title) by Kjell Sundvall and The Crown Jewels by Ella Lemhagen.

The debut of Icelandic Rúnar Rúnarsson, Volcano, will be presented, along with Norwegian Oslo, August 31st by the acclaimed Joachim Trier, as well as the Danish A Funny Man by Martin Pieter Zandvliet, who made the great Applause, which competed in The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award. Protagonist Nikolaj Lie Kaas is attending the festival and will visit the festival's talk show Studio Draken on February 3, together with the director.

Nordic Film Market will take place at Biopalatset in Gothenburg Feb 3 - 6. The screenings are closed market screenings
