Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Teddy Awards were announced during Berlinae

The eight members of this international jury – organisers of queer and other film festivals – view films within the framework of all programs of the Berlinale which have queer context.

Three films are nominated for each category and one receives a TEDDY for best feature film, best documentary/essay film and usually the best short film,

each with a cash award of € 3,000.

Members of the Jury:

Charlie Boudreau – Canada (image+nation Montréal International LGBT Film Festival)
Frédéric Arends – Belgium (Pink Screens Festival Brussels)
Ailton Franco Jr – Brazil (Curta Cinema Rio de Janeiro)
Kam Wai Kui – The Netherlands (Transgender Film Festival Amsterdam)
Raymond Phathanavirangoon – Hong Kong (Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival)
Jason Plourde – USA (Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival)
Michaela Pnacekova – Czechia (mezipatra Czech Gay & Lesbian Film Festival)
Fanney Tsimong – South Africa (Out in Africa South African Gay & Lesbian Film Festival)

The TEDDY Jury nominated the following films for the Best Feature Film:

THIS FILTHY WORLD by Jeff Garlin

The TEDDY for the Best Documentary Film

endowed with 3,000- €, donated by elledorado e. V., Berlin

goes to

A WALK INTO THE SEA: DANNY WILLIAMS AND THE WARHOL FACTORY by Esther B. Robinson

A reconstruction of an artist lost to the world of a self-indulgent pop art movement, whose life and death is shrouded in mystery.

The TEDDY Jury doesn’t give a TEDDY for the Best Short Film in 2007

This year the Berlinale included no short films explicitly addressing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues in its program. Therefore the Jury regrets that it was unable to select a short film to award with the Teddy.

We sincerely hope that this situation does not represent the future of LGBT film inclusion in this festival, which historically has been instrumental in the introduction and showcasing of these works within an event of international importance.

Given this lack of representation in the Short Film Section, the Jury would like to recognize the inclusion of the Social Spots ÜBERWACHUNGSKAMERA (Security Camera) and LOVE HURTS, two powerful PSAs whose messages encourage mutual respect and the end of intolerance in society. We commend the MANEO Stop Violence Against Gays Project in Berlin for their production of these important works.

The TEDDY Foundation awards actor

HELMUT BERGER

with a

SPECIAL TEDDY

for his complete work.

The

TEDDY BALLOT VOLKSWAGEN Audience Award
