Stockholm Festival Visionary Award 2007 to Wes Anderson.

The 18th Stockholm International Film Festival presents the Stockholm Visionary Award 2007 to American director Wes Anderson. Wes Anderson will visit the festival to accept the award in person and to meet the audience in a special Face2face on Nov 16.
The motivation is as follows:

Wes Anderson receives the Stockholm Visionary Award for his humane and humoristic portraits of solitary human beings. In his films, he creates unique and stylized universes inhabited by characters searching for something to search for. Through his visionary filmmaking, Anderson has given a modern face to the classic ‘auteur’.

Wes Anderson grew up in Texas, and had his feature debut in 1996 with Bottle Rocket. Anderson co-wrote the script together with Owen Wilson, and has since worked with Owen and/or Luke Wilson in all of his feature films. Andersons widely praised feature debut was followed by Rushmore in 1998. Trailblazing comedy The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) resulted in an Oscar nomination for best screenplay for team Anderson/Wilson. In A Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004), Anderson put Wilson in front of the camera, and co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale).

Wes Andersons latest film The Darjeeling Limited (2007) will be screened in a special Visionary Award section at this year’s festival. The Darjeeling Limited tells the story of three brothers who set out to bond on an eventful trip throughout India. Owen Wilson is again in front of the camera, together with Adrien Brody (The Pianist) and Jason Schwarzman (I Heart Huckabees, Rushmore).

Wes Anderson will visit Stockholm together with Jason Schwarzman.
Preliminary press day Nov 15.
