Seville Film Festival tribute to Patrice Chereau

100% European Seville Film Festival will pay a tribute to the French filmmaker Patrice Chéreau

In its second edition, the 100% European Seville Film Festival, focussed on the continental production of established and nowadays authors , will pay a tribute to the French filmmaker Patrice Chéreau, author of films such as "The injured man", "Queen Margot" or "Intimacy". This section of the Andalusian Festival is part of the general dedication to French cinema, which includes other tributes and series.

Director of films, theater, opera and TV with a great prestige in France, besides scriptwriter and occasional actor, Chéreau was born on the 2nd november 1944 in Lézigné (Maine upon Loire), and from his very youth he practised as an actor and theatre entertainer, coming to codirect the Popular National Theater of Lyon. In 1975 he gets his first première as director and scriptwriter with the film "The flesh of the orchid", followed by nine more titles, from which the most commercial one has been "Queen Margot" (1994), and the most controversial film "Intimacy" (2001), the first one shooted in English and with explicit sex scenes which set people talking. With it, he obtained the Golden Bear in the Berlinale, besides the best actress award for the actress Kerry Fox. The prestige of this cultural French icon, winner of another Bear- this time Silver, for "My brother" (2003), president of the jury in Cannes this year, the actors direction deserves an special highlight. He has directed important actors such as Simone Signoret, Isabelle Adjani, Charlotte Rampling, Edwige Feuillere, Virna Lisi or Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, and among his male "discoveries" appear Jean-Hugues Anglade and Vincent Pérez. He is vice-president of the French Cinematheque from the last april, he continues working on stage and shooting sets. This year, he has already premièred in the Mostra of Venice "Gabrielle" with Isabelle Huppert, besides directing an opera version of Mozart "Cosi fan tutte". Seville Film Festival, organised by the Cultural Delegation of Sevilla City Council, will take place from 4th to 12th november. This festival has become an essential reference in the European Continent, for the economic endowments of its awards (240.000 euros for the commercial distribution of European films) as for the institutional support of the European Film Academy or Eurimages Fund, with 55.000 spectators in the last edition.
