San Diego Film Festival Award Winners

The Sixth Annual San Diego Film Festival has officially announced the winners after its Sept. 27 – 30 four-day run which featured more than 100 film premieres and the country’s largest screenwriting conference in collaboration with the American Screenwriters Association.

This year’s Festival winners collected their awards at the Sept. 28 Actors Ball & Awards Ceremony hosted by Extra’s Michael Corbett at the House of Blues. Best Actress went to Jennifer Tilly– who was on-hand to accept the award for her leading role in Intervention, which also won Best Feature. The Heineken Red Star Award – exclusive to only seven film festivals – went to feature film Killing Zelda Sparks. Best Screenplay was picked-up by Paul Schrader for The Walker, Dominique Swain took home the Rising Star award for The Pacific & Eddy and Coyote’s Brian Petersen was awarded Best Actor.

“We had an incredible line-up this year,” said Robin Laatz, executive director and founder of the San Diego Film Festival. “Of the 24 features we screened, 10 were U.S. or world premieres. And of the 60 programming slots of features, collections of shorts and music video tracks, 25 played to sell-out audiences.”

Films that have premiered at the San Diego Film Festival have been picked up for distribution by PorchLight, Artisan and Samuel Goldwyn. SDFF premieres have also been nominated for and earned Academy Awards, including Super Size Me, Born into Brothels, and The Queen.
