PORTSMOUTH::SCREEN 05 Film + New Media Festival
19-26 November 2005
PORTSMOUTH already attracts a great number of film-lovers to it's cinemas and multiplexes and this inaugral film festival offers audiences the opportunity to experience new, independent, experimental and world cinema as well as showcasing the work of establishing and local film makers. The aim of the festival is to provide a high-profile programme of accessible, engaging, entertaining, challenging and thought-provoking work and to raise the profile of film and new media activity that already exists in the city.
The festival also explores links between film and music, dance, digital and new media, writing and social and cultural education. It also offers opportunities for learning and participation through lectures, workshops and open-forum discussions.
Highlights of the festival include the London Film Festival on Tour; a night of skateboarding on film (both local and international); The Commonwealth Film Festival ' s dance films on tour; a scriptwriting
master class with professional writer Bernard McKenna; a screening of the work of acclaimed experimental film makers onedotzero; Top of the Pomps, a compilation of the best music videos to come out of Portsmouth and an opportunity to have your say in next next year's festival programme...
A host of venues are participating in the festival: newly opened No6 Cinema at Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth College, The Third Floor Arts Centre, UCI, The University of Portsmouth and The India Arms.
