New 4+1 Film Festival Mapfre Foundation revealed during San Sebastian

4+1 Film Festival MAPFRE FOUNDATION will show Art House Cinema simultaneously in five iberoamerican cities

This morning, within the framework of the San Sebastián Film Festival, the Managing Director of the MAPFRE FOUNDATION Culture Institute Pablo Jimenez Burillo has presented the first edition of the 4+1 Film Festival MAPFRE FOUNDATION. The idea behind this international event, which will be celebrated for the first time on November 11th through the 14th of 2010, consists in bringing back some of the most significant Art House Films, recently shown in the most prestigious international film festivals, that despite their cinematographic value, have not yet reached commercial circuits. In addition to this, the originality of this enterprise consists in screening simultaneously to an audience in five different iberoamerican cities (Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Madrid).

In regard to the programming, the 4+1 Film Festival MAPFRE FOUNDATION will have a Competitive Section in which 12 films of 12 countries will compete for the Audience Award to the Best Film, accompanied with 20.000 euros. The prize will be awarded by the direct vote of the attending audience of the festival’s sessions in all its sites. In this first edition of the 4+1 Film Festival MAPFRE FOUNDATION will count on the works of such relevant filmmakers as Jane Campion, Gael García Bernal, Mira Nair, Gus Van Sant, Agnes Varda or Wim Wenders, along with prized films in Berlin, Cannes or Sundance festivals among others. Also, The Tribute Section, will be dedicated to the film personality (director, actor, actress… etc.) that the festival will host as Guest of Honor. The 4+1 Film Festival MAPFRE FOUNDATION will be held in prestigious institutions, private or public, recognised in the cinema environment: Cinemateca Distrital de Bogotá / Cine Colombia (Bogotá), Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires-Fundación Constantini (Buenos Aires), Cine Palafox (Madrid), Cineteca Nacional de México (México City) and Cinemateca Brasileira (São Paulo).
Although the 4+1 Film Festival MAPFRE FOUNDATION happens simultaneously in five cities, in each edition, one of these capitals will be held as the Official Venue of the Festival. In its first edition, the official venue, where the main formal events will be held, as well as the attendance of the Guest of Honor or other recognised guests, will be the MALBA-FUNDACIÓN CONSTANTINI of Buenos Aires.
