Moviepilot.com launches with huge facebook film communityNew recommendation and discovery platform brings upcoming films to fans based on their taste, revolutionizing movie marketing. Site to launch with Facebook Fan community of more than five million worldwide.Moviepilot.com, a personal recommendation and discovery platform for upcoming movies and TV shows launches today, with the aim of ensuring movie fans discover the best upcoming releases suited to their tastes, offering a bold new approach to the way film studios operate their marketing campaigns. Already with the largest movie community in Germany via its existing recommendation portal Moviepilot.de, and the biggest film community on Facebook, with more than five million fans internationally, Moviepilot has gathered deep insights into the dynamics of ‘word-of-mouth' around movie releases; the impact of social media on movie marketing and the taste patterns and preferences of ‘first weekend' movie fans worldwide. With this knowledge, it is able to deliver relevant recommendations about upcoming movies and TV shows - from the first rumor to theatrical release - as well as provide users with a place to participate, share their views and help good movies receive the attention they deserve. "As a recommendation service, Moviepilot.com focuses solely on upcoming movie projects and TV shows, helping movie fans to discover the kind of new projects they will love early on in their development," explained Tobias Bauckhage, Moviepilot's founder and CEO. "To date, there is no web service that focuses squarely on new movies and targeting those fans who will appreciate them. In the era of social media, they are the most important factor to fuel word of mouth and ensure a good start for any movie on its theatrical release weekend. Moviepilot.com will help fans to find upcoming films and upcoming films to find fans." From today, users can sign into Moviepilot.com using their Facebook login and will immediately receive personalized movie recommendations based on their social networking activity on Facebook, for example what they ‘like'. Users can then trace the evolution of upcoming films and TV shows from start to finish; from rumor to red carpet. The greater the level of user participation, the more relevant the recommendations in their personal feed. Moviepilot.com is one of the first web services launching off a massive Facebook fanbase, which was built prior to the product launch. By leveraging the distribution capabilities of the Facebook Platform and engagement of their Platform Partnerships team, Moviepilot has built up close cooperation with the movie studios and is now launching a product that is very deeply integrated into the Facebook ecosystem. Traditionally, movie marketing begins only a few weeks out from theatrical release, to maximize awareness on a broad scale and attract maximum first weekend ticket admissions; the decisive factor on the overall lifecycle of a film. Moviepilot.com aims to be the first online ‘home' for any new movie project and its early fans, sometimes years in advance of release. By offering this first point of call on the web, Moviepilot.com ensures ‘first weekenders' are engaged as early as possible and spread the word. Major movie studios, including Disney, Universal and Paramount have been working with Moviepilot.de since its launch in 2007, to market new films to a German audience. And over the last ten months moviepilot has successfully supported studios like Universal, Disney and Warner internationally to reach their "first weekend" audiences on Facebook more efficiently - including the movies Bridesmaids, Fast Five, The Dark Knight Rises and Real Steel. Moviepilot was founded by filmmakers Tobias Bauckhage and Jon Handschin (CPO), as well as former OMDB founder Benjamin Krause (CTO). The company is based in Berlin, Germany and has received funding from Grazia Equity, Passion Capital's Stefan Glanzer and Deutsche Telekom Ventures, who also use Moviepilot.de to deliver its German TV audience with personalised TV recommendations. One of the investors and active advisors to the company is Peter Read, who previously ran Nielsen Entertainment for the movie studios in Los Angeles.
