HDFEST’s High-Definition Film Festival at Sony Wonder Technology Lab

HDFEST announced the details of its upcoming New York event October 20th and 21st. Since 2000, HDFEST has presented the best of cinema created by independent filmmakers and high-definition animators. HDFEST is further pleased to announce that the New York festival screenings will be held in the High- Definition Theatre at Sony Wonder Technology Lab, a four-story, interactive technology and entertainment museum for all ages. HDFEST New York is the first of HDFEST's 2009 events; the second event will be the West Coast event in December.

HDFEST's New York festival screenings will be held October 20th and 21st from 5:15pm-11pm. The New York event will screen a truly diverse selection of short films and features, with most projects making both their US premieres and their HD premieres simultaneously.
Tickets to HDFEST screenings are $12 and can be purchased online at www.hdfest.com/festival.html or at the HDFEST box office the day of the event.

As new High-Definition technology emerges, HDFEST throughout its 10- year history has been on top of celebrating these changes. Numerous presentations will take place on Blu-Ray. HDFEST will also be presenting films shot on the new RED One camera including True Beauty This Night, by Peter Besson and Another Thing, by Ilaria D'Elia.

HDFEST New York will also be presenting a series of the best most eye-catching High-Definition animations from talented animators from around the world. Selections include Hector Corp. written and directed by Gary H. Lee at DreamWorks. Lee was responsible for sequences in Kung Fu Panda and Monsters Vs. Aliens. Other High- Definition animation selections include Canadian animations Skylight and Jabbawaki, Belgian film Tot Ziens!, French animation La Main Des Maitres and Crux: The Chaos from Singapore. Other High-Definition showcases at the festival include High-Definition Science Fiction Shorts and High-Definition Supernatural and Fantasy Films.

The documentary film China Power, directed and produced by Pia Getty, will be screening at HDFEST New York. China Power is narrated by actor Rufus Sewell and focuses on “contemporary Chinese art reaching out, crossing boundaries and searching for its position on the global stage.” Festival International feature screenings include Taipei 24H, which is a feature film, divided into 8 segments, each directed by a different Taiwanese filmmaker. HDFEST will also be presenting The Satyr of Springbok Heights, a South African mockumentary filmed in the style of tv’s The Office. HD featurette The Curse of Micah Rood is another HDFEST New York highlight. This supernatural film stars Ron Palillo as Connecticut apple-grower who lived in the 17th century.

The complete New York HDFEST schedule and online ticketing information can be found at http://www.hdfest.com/hdfestnyc.html. The Sony Wonder Technology Lab is located at at 56th Street and Madison Avenue in the Sony Plaza Public Arcade.
