COVID-19 update: ‘Languages & the Media’ Postponed

As the events sector begins to feel the impact of the COVID-19 virus, the organisers of Europe’s most renowned conference on audiovisual localisation have announced the postponement of ‘Languages & the Media.’

The conference, which was scheduled to take place in June, will now be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin from December 14 - 16 2020.

A statement by the organisers, ICWE GmbH, announcing the new date, said:

“In the light of the rapidly escalating Covid-19 outbreak around the world and with the best interests of our community at heart, we have been advised to postpone Languages & the Media 2020.

“It was a difficult step, but it was taken to ensure the safety of all our attendees and staff, and to help contain the spread of the virus in these challenging times. We want Languages & the Media to be a safe, enjoyable and enriching environment for everyone and this could not have been possible if we had moved forward as planned. We thank all our speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, partners and the many participants who have already registered for their understanding and support as we tackle these difficult circumstances together.”

Anyone who has already booked for the conference or is planning to do so is advised to look at the FAQ page of the conference website, www.languages-media.com, for more information and to contact the organisers directly if they have specific concerns. Details about plans for the December conference will also be posted on social media.

“Anyone - whether a conference participant, a sponsor or an exhibitor - who has booked a place at the conference will be able to transfer their booking to December,” says Rebecca Stromeyer, CEO of ICWE. “The event is very popular and our main partners and supporters understand the reasons for the postponement and have already confirmed they’ll be with us in December. The conference industry is not shutting down but we all have to take sensible precautions and, right now, that means pushing back our conference a few months. I have no doubt it’ll be better attended than ever in December and there’ll be a buzz of excitement, as the industry comes together to discuss the new world in which we are now all living.

“In the months ahead, we will be working to make Languages & the Media 2020 the great event everyone has been looking forward to and we hope to welcome our friends, both old and new, to Berlin in December.”
