Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Copenhagen Fest Masterclasses with Stephen Frears

Come close to some of the masters of film – amongst others Stephen Frears, Ghita Nørby and cinematographer Robby Müller. Copenhagen International Film Festival is proud to present Robby Müller as a member of this year’s festival jury.

At Copenhagen International Film Festival from 21 September to 1 October, it will be possible to meet some of the masters of film and get a unique insight into their universe. During the festival, the Danish Film School and Cinemateket will be the setting for seminars and master classes with inspiring filmmakers from all over the world. At these events, directors, actors and cinematographers will talk about their work or debate with the public about topical subjects.

Moreover, there will be a seminar on Denmark’s greatest director of all times, Carl Theodor Dreyer, and a seminar about the talent support program New Danish Screen.

Tickets for the master classes and seminars can be booked in advance via the festival website from 4 September. The price per ticket is 70 to 100 kroner.
Master Classes

Meet director Stephen Frears, who has directed five actresses to an Academy Award nomination and is famous for his strong social realistic stories.

Meet cinematographer Robby Müller, who is also a member of this year’s jury. Robby Müller is known for his work with Wim Wenders, Jim Jarmusch and our own Lars von Trier. In 1997, he received a Robert for the cinematography in Breaking the Waves. Moderator: Film photographer Anthony Dod Mantle (Manderlay).

Meet actress Ghita Nørby, Denmark’s great actress and president of this year’s jury. Now her large Danish audience can finally meet her. Moderator: Film critic and author Ole Michelsen.

Meet director Goran Paskaljevic, the controversial and strongly politically active ex-Yugoslav (Serbian) director, author and producer. Paskaljevic' acclaimed film A Midwinter Night's Dream is presently on release in Denmark, and the festival will host the premiere of his latest film The Optimists - one week before it opens in Belgrade. Moderator: Director Lotte Svendsen.

Seminars

Meet director István Szabó and producer János Rózsa. The great Hungarian director István Szabó was president of the festival’s jury in 2004.

Meet director Amos Gitai. The Israeli Gitai is known for his highly political films and for his moderate stance towards the conflict in Israel. Moderator: Journalist Martin Krasnik.

About director Carl Theodor Dreyer. On the panel: Lecturer Casper Tybjerg, director Torben Skjødt Jensen (Carl Th. Dreyer: My Métier) and lecturer Peter Schepelern. The seminar will be moderated by film critic Henrik Uth Jensen.

About New Danish Screen, the talent support program that has already produced great artistic successes like Pernille Fischer Christensen’s A Soap . In connection with the seminar, the festival will show the latest short films produced under the support program. None of these films are in distribution.
