BNFF Grand Prix went to Spain

The jury of the official competition EurAsia has announced that the best film in the competition of 10th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival was Spanish tragic comedy DARKBLUEALMOSTBLACK. Best Eurasian film receives a cash award of 10,000 euros sponsored by the City of Tallinn. The award for best director went to Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan for CLIMATES. Previously Ceylan has won at BNFF the award of Estonian Film Journalists’ Association in 2002.

Sandra Hüller (REQUIEM, Germany) received the award for best actress and Samuli Edelmann the award for best actor for his role in MAN EXPOSED (Finland).

The five-membered jury, headed by Aruna Vasudev (India) announced seven awards altogether.

For the second time in the frames of BNFF the Scottish Leader Estonian Film Award was given out. The jury declared Veiko Õunpuu’s EMPTY as the best film, receiving cash award of 50,000 EEK. Jury’s Special Mention went to documentary THE BLUE HILLS. Estonian film critics chose Hungarian TAXIDERMIA as their favourite, the audience’s highest votes went to ELSA & FRED (Argentina, Spain) Lifetime Achivement Award this year was given to Aki Kaurismäki, whose latest work LIGHTS IN THE DUSK was also festival’s closing film.
