Bergamo, Friday March 9,2018

The 36th edition of the most important cinematographic meeting in Bergamo is starting Friday March 9 2018 with two extraordinary events: the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the legendary artist Jonas Mekas at Palazzo della Ragione and the screening of the movie The Last Laugh (1924, 90’) by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, live-scored with organ by the Maestro Gerardo Chimini.

Opening: Jonas Mekas – Personale

An exhibition dedicated to the legend of experimental cinema Jonas Mekas (Lithuania, 1922), poet, artist and filmmaker, founder of the New American cinema Group and creator of the Anthology Film Archive, will be open until April 15 in the renovated spaces of Palazzo della Ragione. Curated by Stefano Raimondi and Claudia Santeroni, Jonas Mekas - Personale transforms the exhibition environment in a place where, thanks to an immersive set-up, some of the author's most relevant films coexists along with still images of a highly cinematic nature. The project is within the Encounters: Cinema and Contemporary Art section of the 36th edition of the Festival. The exhibition “Jonas Mekas – Personale”, is promoted by Municipality of Bergamo, Bergamo Film Meeting and The Blank with the necessary support of A Palazzo Gallery (Brescia), Francesco Urbano Ragazzi and Studio Luca Bombassei.

Live-scored with organ by the Maestro Gerardo Chimini.

In a unique and suggestive location, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo Upper Town, the Maestro Gerardo Chimini will live-score movie with organ.
The Last Laugh (Der letzte Mann) by F.W. Murnau (Germania, 1924, 90', b/n), with Emil Jannings, Maly Delschaft, Max Hiller, Emilie Kurz, Hans Unterkircher, Olaf Storm, Hermann Vallentin, Georg John, Emmy Wyda.
Original version with italian subtitles.
In collaboration with Fondazione MIA – Congregazione Misericordia Maggiore Bergamo.
