At Closing Night Event At The Tribeca Cinemas

The 7th Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil-NY announced that Loki - Arnaldo Baptista, directed by Paulo Henrique Fontenelle, won the Festivals’s Crystal Lens Award for Best Feature Film. The award, which is voted on by the audience from amongst all the films, was presented at the Cine Fest Petrobras-Brasil-NY’s Closing Night party at the Tribeca Cinemas on Friday, August 7, 2009.

The Award was presented by the evening’s hostess, Flavia Guimaraes of Inffinito. In addition to Ms. Guimaraes, the evening’s speakers included Adriana Dutra, Cláudia Dutra and Viviane Spinelli, Co-Founders of Inffinito, the Festival’s producer; Consul General of Brasil in NY, Consul General Osmar Chohfi; Patricia Mello from Pertrobras, the Festival’s title sponsor; and Miguel Jeronimo and Ney Neves from Embratur, one of the Festival’s main sponsors. Following the Award presentation, the Closing Night party for the 7th Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil-NY got underway and the filmmakers, special guests, members, sponsors and friends celebrated this year’s successful event.

Loki - Arnaldo Baptista directed by Paulo Henrique Fontenelle, is a biopic of musician Arnaldo Baptista, ex-member of the Mutantes, told through the strokes of a painting done by the artist himself. The spectator is brought into his life through the painting and historical images that show the most important moments of his artistic career, showing how he became one of the most famous Brazilian rock stars.

The 7th Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil-NY kicked-off on Sunday, August 2 with an extravaganza at Central Park’s SummerStage with a concert by Sílvia Machete, followed by a screening of Daniel Filho’s comedy, “If I Were You 2,” the most successful film this year in Brasil. Then for the next five days, over 20 features, documentaries and short films were presented at the Tribeca Cinemas. Many of the filmmakers were on hand to introduce and participate in q&a sessions after their film’s screening.

The VII Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil-NY is presented by Petrobras; and sponsored by Embratur, Ministry of Tourism-Brazil, the State of Minas Gerais and Redecard; Official Airlines – American Airlines; supported by Stella Artois, Piola, Quanta, Fastway Moving, Contigo, MPB FM, MINC/SAV, Department of Culture-Brazil, APEX Brasil, Ministry of Foreign Relations-Brazil, Consulate General of New York, and City Parks Foundation-SummerStage.
