DOKU.ARTS

DOKUARTS was founded in 2006 at the Berlin Academy of Arts upon the initiative of the festival director, Andreas Lewin.

The International Festival for Films on Art DOKUARTS shows the strengths, diversity, imagination and experimental nature of the documentary genre: from long-term observation to filmic essays, from compilation to homage films, creative documentaries by filmmakers and film documents are presented, which are characterised by their artistic or documentary quality. DOKUARTS promotes this valuable genre, and is unique in Europe for its stringent conceptual orientation.

The international symposium held in parallel with the festival programme is developed from lines of inquiry innate to film and conceived with the aim of reflecting and matching art, science and philosophy – as it has done during the Recycled Cinema (2014), Architectures in Motion (2015), Essaydox (2016) and Beyond Format (2018) and Nuances Now (2019) symposia.

Filmmuseum Amsterdam
CALL FOR ENTRIES – NOW OPEN

The Filmmuseum Amsterdam and the Dutch Cultural Media Fund are pleased to announce the fourth edition of DOKU.ARTS, which will take place from 11 to 14 June 2009 at the Filmmuseum in Amsterdam.

Call for entries
The call for entries for DOKU.ARTS 2009 is now open! The deadline for film submissions is 15 March 2009 (materials must be received by this date). Please go to http://www.doku-arts.com to download the submission form.

Theme of the festival
DOKU.ARTS explores the connections between the history of cinema and television and art. It shows contemporary cinematic portrayals and documents about artists and art, which succeed in getting close to the life and work of artists. The festival screens, promotes and discusses documentaries from all art fields: music, literature, theatre, dance, cinema, architecture, painting, sculpture, visual art and media art. DOKU.ARTS presents films and videos with intrinsic artistic value.

Festival history
DOKU.ARTS was founded in 2006 at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 2008 the new director of the Filmmuseum, Sandra den Hamer, formerly director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, invited the festival to move to Amsterdam.
