The 42nd Denver Film Festival announces its dates

The 42nd Denver Film Festival will open with a tribute to former Artistic Director, Michael Brittin Withey on Oct. 30 and continue through Nov. 10, 2019. Ticket packages are currently on sale.

The Denver Film Festival (DFF) announced its dates for the 42nd edition of the popular, critically-acclaimed festival: Oct. 30 – Nov. 10, 2019. Produced by Denver Film, DFF is considered one of the nation’s premier regional film festivals, known for presenting Academy Award– and Independent Spirit Award–winning films, along with hosting some of the world’s leading filmmakers, producers, and actors.

“The Denver Film Festival has always been a celebration of important and thought-provoking stories happening within the film industry from around the globe,” says Festival Director and Interim Executive Director, Britta Erickson. “This year will be no different as we also commemorate one of Denver's most important voices, long-time beloved Artistic Director for Denver Film, Brit Withey."

Withey, a highly-respected film industry leader who worked for Denver Film for more than two decades, was killed in a one-car accident in late March of this year. He will be honored at the Festival with an evening tribute on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Sie FilmCenter with screenings of three of his favorite films and cinematic masterpieces. The Brit Withey Artistic Director Memorial Fund will be utilized to celebrate Hungarian filmmaker, György Pálfi with a retrospective program.

DFF42 will kick-off its traditional Opening Night celebration on Thursday, Oct. 31 with a Red Carpet screening at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House followed by the Opening Night Party at the historic McNichols Building in Civic Center Park.

Throughout the Festival, DFF42 will present more than 250 titles including local, national and international cinema, industry panels, achievement awards, and tributes, as well as an International Focus on Brazilian Cinema. The full 12-day Festival program will be announced on Thursday, Oct. 10.

The year-round home of Denver Film, the Sie FilmCenter, will serve as the anchor venue for the Festival. Screenings will also be presented at the UA Denver Pavilions on the 16th Street Mall, and Red Carpet Presentations will screen at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. The Festival Annex, located inside the historic McNichols Building at Civic Center Park, will play host to panel discussions, virtual reality, interactive and immersive experiences, High School Day, community engagement, and a Festival Lounge for the public.

Individual tickets go on sale to Denver Film members on Friday, Oct. 11 and to the general public on Monday, Oct. 14. High-level members will be able to purchase their tickets in advance of the public and member on-sale dates. Tickets will be available for purchase online at www.denverfilm.org or the DFF42 main box office location at the Sie FilmCenter (2510 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80206).

Press accreditation is currently open and closes on Friday, Oct. 11. Complete details on how to apply are currently available at: denverfilmfestival.denverfilm.org/media/media-accreditation/
