Five Sports Movies That Are Worth Playing
If you love movies, you’ll probably have favorites in every genre such as dramas, actions and maybe horrors if your taste reaches that far. However, most people rarely think of sports as a genre when choosing the movie to play. That’s mainly because most people don’t find sports
movies interesting, though there is a number worth playing.
Let’s take a look back at some sports movies that are worth playing.
1. Warrior
When two alienated brothers – Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton – come together, they do so under peculiar circumstances in a mixed-martial-arts championship. The two must fight against each other in the high-pressure final which makes the movies as interesting as bonusnewjersey.com thanks to its well-scripted storyline.
While the star actors in warrior (2011) are at the top of their game, the standout presentation comes from Nick Nolte, who stars as their father, Paddy. Nolte who plays a recovering alcoholic was named for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
2. Above the Rim
The film narrates the story of Kyle (Duane Martin) – a high school Basketball star – as he steers through relationships in his community. He gets involved with a local drug dealer and former promising Basketballer Birdie (Tupac) who works as the school’s security guard.
The Jeff Pollack movie portrays what it’s like to be a talented youngster in a low-socioeconomic community, where they want to exploit on your promise to escape poverty.
Concurrently, it pinnacles the importance of leadership and guidance in these kinds of communities, displayed by some great performances.
3. Any given Sunday
The film directed by Oliver Stone focuses on Willie Beamen (Jamie Foxx), a young quarterback who tries to win the respect of sophisticated coach Tony D’Amato (Al Pacino).
The young player also tries to over-the-hill injured captain and quarterback Rooney (Dennis Quaid) while still not wasting his opportunities, no matter how he irritates.
The film explores all features of American Football team via the fictional Miami Sharks club; business affairs, drugs, being a black athlete in a not so black industry and promotional contracts. The performance is brilliant as Jamie Foxx’s charisma, and flamboyance is on full display as he becomes the first-string quarterback Willie Beaman.
4. The Express: The Ernie Davis story
The movie follows Ernie Davis (Rob Brown) a professional footballer and first black American to win the College Football Heisman Trophy. Triumph and adversity are at the heart of the movie, with Ernie Davis plighted by intense segregation and racism. However, Davis went on to become the greatest college football player in his generation.
5. Australian Rules
Set in a fishing town in South Australian, the story follows youngster Gary ‘’Blacky’’ Black (Nathan Phillips) as he navigates through Aussie Rules football finals with a promising football player and best mate Dumby Red (Luke Carroll).
Racism is a central theme in the movie and mainly looks into the strained relationship that non-local Gary has with his father Bob (Simon Westaway), who isn’t pleased with his son mixing with the local kids.
Albeit a portrait of Australia’s racist tensions, the movie highlights the positive, unifying effects of sports. In a town where there are divided white and black communities, the AFL oval is the one place where everyone comes together.
Conclusion
Sports films are easy to like if you are sports fanatic. They’re not only fun and have feel-good stories, but the formula also plays out well since who you’re rooting for has to either win or fail in a feel-good and honorable loss with lessons to learn.
