The Boulder International Film Festival. Our big idea? Combine low entry fees with generous filmmaker hospitality, and open the festival to gifted film artists worldwide. This has made BIFF one of the most influential festivals in the US, with an extraordinary number of new films that have gone from BIFF to significant box-office success and multiple Oscar nominations. Chris Gore, the author of The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide, says "The staff's dedication to championing true Indies, the amazing hospitality along with a classic theater make this a festival that should be on the top of every filmmaker's list”. A filmmaker’s festival
The Boulder International Film Festival will be accepting submissions starting June 27th. BIFF 2015 is March 5 – 8.
The Boulder International Film Festival offers filmmakers superb hospitality, excellent exposure opportunities and huge, enthusiastic audiences, all combining to create an incredible festival experience. Filmmakers enjoy luxurious upscale accommodations close to the Festival’s main venue, a travel stipend (for feature length films only), and an exclusive Red Carpet VIP pass to the galas and legendary parties, where plenty of interaction with Oscar-winning celebrities and directors is the norm. Of course, most people come to Colorado in March to ski (it’s our best month!). Filmmakers can head up to the slopes for the best skiing of the year, and will receive a free lift ticket and ski rental at our favorite ski resort a short drive from Boulder. World-class food and drink and fantastic parties every night all add up to one of the most welcoming, filmmaker-friendly festivals on the circuit.
The Festival attracts more than 25,000 film enthusiasts, media and industry each year and has been proud to host and celebrate some of film’s most talented artists, including 2013 Kennedy Center honoree Shirley MacLaine at BIFF 2014, Oscar-nominated actors Alec Baldwin, James Franco, Martin Sheen, Oliver Stone, William H. Macy, Peter Fonda, Emmy-nominated actress Blythe Danner, legendary comedian Chevy Chase, and Golden-Globe nominated actress Maria Bello, along with many other independent filmmakers and special guests including directors Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill), Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Michael and Mark Polish (Northfork), Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Congressman John Lewis (Freedom Riders), and writer John August (Big Fish), among many others.
I am about to direct my first feature film, and it all began at the Boulder International Film Festival 2014. I went there with my short film, Lunch Date, which I wrote and directed. I met the Investor and Executive Producer for my upcoming feature film at my screening, and from there, the course of my life changed! We begin shooting in London, summer 2014. It’s a wonderful festival which celebrates independent filmmakers, and where truly amazing things happen!
