Kata works in a factory. A widow who is turning 43, she’s been having an affair with a married colleague for some time. Kata wants to have a child, but her lover, who already has two children, won’t hear of it.

MEET MÁRTA MÉSZÁROS AND HANNA SCHYGULLA IN CHB: On the13th of February, the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin will honour Márta Mészáros with a half-day event. Two Mészáros films will be shown from 2:15 pm: the Cannes award-winning ‘ Diary for my Children’ (1982) and ‘ The Two of Them’ (1977), the only movie featuring Vladimir Vysotsky and his French love Marina Vlady together.
The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with Márta Mészáros and special guest Hanna Schygulla from 7pm, moderated by film director Jutta Brückner.

The final inhabitants of an abandoned settlement set off, fleeing their miserable existence by following the promises of a false prophet named Irimias. Béla Tarr uses endless, dimly lit tracking shots to describe his protagonists’ hopeless attitude toward life. Sátántangó is a monument of contemporary cinema, even of all film history.
