Market News: Hot Films SellingTuesday, February 13----Actress-turned-director Julie Delpy's TWO DAYS IN PARIS, which had its world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival a few days ago, has been purchased for North American rights. The Samuel Goldwyn Company and Netflix's Red Envelope Entertainment have announced the joint acquisition of the film, which they are planning to release in the US and Canada this coming summer. TWO DAYS IN PARIS is a romantic comedy about a French woman photographer (Delpy) and an American interior designer (Adam Goldberg) who attempt to re-ignite their troubled relationship with a romantic vacation in Paris. But the combination of her overbearing non-English speaking parents, his obsession with photographing every famous Parisian tombstone and a flirtatious ex-boyfriend (played by German film star Daniel Bruehl) who comes back on the scene, only adds fuel to the fire. Will they be able to salvage their relationship? Will they ever have sex again? Or will they merely manage to perfect the art of arguing? The film, a winning and entertaining culture clash comedy in the vein of Richard Linklater's BEFORE SUNRISE, will be released in France next month by French distribution company Rezo Films. Another hot title making the rounds is the Brazilian film THE YEAR MY PARENTS WENT ON VACATION, directed by Cao Hamburger. Paris-based sales company Films Distribution has sold the 1970s political coming-of-age drama to the five-territory collective Indie Circle, which comprises Haut et Court (France), Lucky Red (Italy), Frenetic (Switzerland) and Cineart (Belgium/The Netherlands). Spanish distributor Vertigo has acquired the film for Spain, and a US deal is currently being closed, according to Films Distributions' sales co-chief Francois Yon.
Germany's Beta Cinema has been busy with the hit Berlinale Competition film THE COUNTERFEITERS, directed by Stefan Ruzikowsky. ABC/Cinemien has bought all rights for Benelux, with Europa Filmes buying Brazilian film rights and J-Bics acquiring rights for Thailand.
