International Documentary Association Award Nominees


Thursday, October 11--------The International Documentary Association (IDA), the most influential professional association devoted to the non-fiction form, has announced its 2007 nominees for the IDA Awards. Films compete in seven categories that includes works produced for theatrical release and for television exposure. The IDA nominations are an accurate reflection of what documentary features wil make the short list for the Academy Award.

Nominees for the IDA Award For Feature Films include: 

  • CRAZY LOVE, director Dan Klores' evocative tale of a marriage gone bad but that stil endures.
  • OPERATION HOMECOMING by Richard F. Robbins, a compelling film that uses letters from soldiers as its point of reference.
  • SICKO, Michael Moore's devastating assault on the corporate health care system in the United States
  • TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE, director Alex Gibney's hard hitting account of soldier abuses in Afghanistan and Iraq
  • A WALK TO BEAUTIFUL, the story of five Ethiopian women who suffer from devastating childbirth injuries and embark on a journey to reclaim their lost dignity, co-directed by Mary Olive Smith and Amy Bucher

OPERATION HOMECOMING,  A WALK TO BEAUTIFUL and the HBO documentary WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE by Spike Lee, were also nominated for the Pare Lorentz Award, named in honor of the pioneer documentarian, which heralds films about social and political issues.  Home Box Office, which has become one of the prime producers and outlets for documentary fare was also honored with nominations for the mini-series ADDICTION and the television serial 30 DAYS, by director Morgan Spurlock.
