The screening of “Borgman”, a new film by Alex van Warmerdam, is this festival’s special event. The movie competed for the Palme d’Or of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Netherlands chose “Borgman” as its entry for next year's Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Jan Bijvoet, who performed the main part in the film, will visit Molodist to present his work.

The story of a black 25-year-old man with a paralysed leg who dreams of becoming a dancer is based on real events. The lead role was performed by Sulémane Démé, who became a critics’ favourite right after the film’s premiere despite the fact he isn’t a professional actor.

Iranian Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s new film will be screened in French Connection program as well. “The Past”, starring Bérénice Bejo (known for her role in “The Artist”), competed for the Palme d’Or and received two awards at 2013 Cannes Film Festival: the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and Best Actress Award (Bérénice Bejo). Călin Peter Netzer’s “Child’s Pose”, the winner of the Golden Bear of the Berlin IFF, is a Romanian nominee on Academy Awards. The film is about Cornelia, a well-to-do, well-connected Bucharest society lady. Her 34-year-old son gets involved in a deadly accident.

My Dog Killer” by Mira Fornay, featured in Festival of the Festivals program, has become Slovakia’s candidate for Oscar. The film won the Tiger Award at Rotterdam IFF.
