THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF "CHASING TWO HARES" AT MOLODIST IFF

On October 20, 18:00, the premiere screening of the restored film "Chasing Two Hares" with the uncovered original Ukrainian soundtrack will take place at Maidan Nezalezhnosti.

The screening of Viktor Ivanov’s legendary film in its 'new old' video and audio version will become a special event of the festival, which became possible thanks to the support of Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre.

The film, made by the Dovzhenko Film Studios in the Ukrainian language in 1961, was later dubbed into Russian, and its original soundtrack was for a long time considered lost. However, recently it was found in the Mariupol Film Fund. As we know from many interviews with the actress who played the lead role in the film, Margarita Krinitsyna, finding the Ukrainian sound-track and being able to restore the original version of the film was her lingering dream.

"The quest for Ukrainian version of "Chasing Two Hares" went on for several decades. It is symbolic that it has been impossible to discover, or, rather, make public the Ukrainian soundtrack until the only two surviving versions were discovered. Based on these, now the Dovzhenko Centre has made a restored Ukrainian version of the film, which will be screened at the Molodist IFF", says Ivan Kozlenko, a film expert and the Center’s Deputy General Director.
