Purgatory
"Through the Pane" will play the Purgatory Film Exhibition in Detroit, Michigan, USA on March 12, 2017.
Helmed by Dawn Westlake, the short film is based on the memoir chapter by her father, Donald G. Westlake, which deals with his acceptance of her mother's death. They were very happily married for 62 years.
GC Johnson of Acoustic Labs scored the film. (He was nominated for the Peer Raben Music Award at SoundTrack_Cologne in Germany in August 2016.)
"Through the Pane" ...
purgatory / noun / an intermediate place or state of temporary suffering for expiatory purification
Within the word “purgatory”, it is easy to envision condemned souls, torment and darkness. However, purgatory may also reflect the cyclic state in which we often rediscover or recreate ourselves anew from within our personal inflictions. Sometimes it is the necessary stage to exorcise ourselves from the haunting ghosts of the past. Perhaps it is the serene place of self reflection and realization.
From within this, the DAMNED Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness proudly presents an exhibition of powerful cinema called Purgatory – A Cinematic Exploration of the Soul. Held on March 13th & 14th 2015 at Detroit’s Tangent Gallery, Purgatory will present approximately 90 minutes of short films of introspective, emotive and/or enlightened subject matters from filmmakers worldwide. This is not an industry-focused film festival, but a tributary showcase of the often redemptive films from the filmmaker’s personal collections.
NOW FEATURING…THE PURGATORY BAZAAR – Come in early before the show and visit the Purgatory Bazaar featuring over a dozen local artists from the DAMNED Exhibition selling their own original art, prints and merchandise. Help support local artists!
Admission is $10 ($5 matinee Sat at 5pm), which includes a coupon for $5 off any $25+ purchase in the bazaar and free popcorn. This event is 18+ due to mature film and art content. A cash bar is also present for alcoholic and non-alcoholic pleasures.

From within this, the producers of the DAMNED exhibition of fine dark art present a new exhibition of cinema and theatre called Purgatory. Held near halfway to DAMNED and Devil’s Night on May 20-22 2010 in Detroit, Purgatory will present approximately 30 short films of deeply introspective, beautifully disturbing and darkly enlightening subject matters from filmmakers worldwide. This is not an industry-focused horror film festival, but a tributary showcase of the often redemptive films from the filmmaker’s personal damnations complimented with live experimental performance art on stage during intermissions.
