My documentary Acasa – My Home portrays the journey of this family, who were forced to adopt city life after eviction from their cocoon in the wilderne...

LICHTER Film Festival Frankfurt International is the programmatic title of the Frankfurt Film Festival, a festival that places particular emphasis on cinematic elements that are otherwise neglected in everyday film and television. For one week in March, the moving image is at the center of the cultural scene in the Rhine-Main region. This film festival has its roots in the local film industry and presents its achievements on a grand scale. It features films from around the world as well and thus represents the growing internationalism of the region and the great diversity found in world cinema today.
LICHTER is a product of the local film scene and was founded in 2008 by a group of young film directors. It has since evolved from an event put on by a small group of committed people that worked in an improvised theater to a highlight of the regional cultural scene that attracts a diverse and expanding audience. Our goal is to build on this and host a unique film festival that brings the region’s creative energy and an interntional audience together.
LICHTER, along with showcasing an excellent and diverse program on the big screen, is a highlight for Frankfurt and the entire Rhine-Main region. Films are shown throughout the region and we take cinema to places it normally doesn’t thrive, like in other cultural institutions and especially in unusual and forgotten places that we then incorporate into our films. LICHTER takes cinema out of its comfort zone and showcases it in a big way.
Our event program also offers workshops and discussions on all aspects of film, our LICHTER Art Award video competition, and a central location to kick back and enjoy a drink or talk with fellow festivalgoers.
Interesting mix of films with connection to the Frankfurt region, international films and video art. Curators pay more attention to the artistic value of the films than to the premiere status. The festival reaches out to the city and the region with several exhibitions, installations and performances. This year´s theme: Nature.
Sections: Feature-length Competition (Fiction, Documentaries), Short Film Competition, International Video Art Competition, Out of Competition, International Films, Retrospective, Special Screenings.

Once Again, Review: Loneliness, Lunchbox and Love
Films in which the actors speak softly, there are no item songs, no fights and no villains, no double entendre, no ghosts, no claptrap dialogues and no stars, are rare indeed. So, when such a movie arrives on the screens, it is time to applaud once again. Once Again, an Indo-German co-production, has many things going for it, and if only it had a more substantive narrative, it would rate among the best of the year. Having said that, I ask disc...

Bose Dead or Alive: Rajkummar Rao in thriller take on Indian freedom fighter
If you were a patriot and freedom seeker in the British colonial India of the 1920s-1940s, you either believed in non-violent struggle, a movement led by ‘Mahatma’ Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or the increasingly violent approach of ‘Netaji’ Subhas Chandra Bose. Mahatma means great soul and Netaji translates as leader. Both belonged to the Congress party, but when Bose called for armed struggle,...

Every April, cellu l’art Short Film Festival presents international short films in Jena, Central Germany. This young and vibrant university city comes alive with screenings and events revolving around shorts from all genres: fiction, animation, documentary and experimental. Films from all over the world compete in the international competition while an annual country focus programme allows the viewers to get to know the (short film) culture of a specific country. In 2017, cellu l’art presented stories from Iran, delving into propaganda, underground cinema and official fiction films. The programme for the upcoming edition focuses on Scotland. Special interests can be satisfied in programmes for horror films, queer films and more.
cellu l’art started out as a project by media science students in 1999 and has since grown rapidly and dynamically, becoming more diverse and more international while still retaining a loveable, friendly ambience. Traditionally, the festival begins with an open air event with live music and short films. The award ceremony on Saturday has become the highlight of the festival week. The handing out of the awards by the professional jury and the youth jury is accompanied by the screening of the awarded films.
Volksbad (a former public bath house turned cultural venue) has been the main spot of the festival for a few years now and makes for a special atmosphere for cinematic adventures.
