"Through the Pane" to play Detroit in Purgatory!

user
"Through the Pane" will play the Purgatory Film Exhibition in Detroit, Michigan, USA on March 12, 2017. Helmed by Dawn Westlake, the short film is based on the memoir chapter by her father, Donald G. Westlake, which deals with his acceptance of her mother's death. They were very happily married for 62 years. GC Johnson of Acoustic Labs scored the film. (He was nominated for the Peer Raben Music Award at SoundTrack_Cologne in Germany in August 2016.) "Through the Pane" ...

It Follows, Review: STD (Sexually Transmitted Death) Some Detroit teenagers have pre-marital sex, and, in the process, get cursed with visions of stalkers, who appear as young and old, strangers and family members, clothed or naked—but with one definite aim: killing the latest in the chain of promiscuous youngsters. The target can buy time by having sex again, with another person, who will then be killed first, but the thing—IT—will get to you in the end. You can run, you ca...

Purgatory V Film Exhibition - A Cinematic Exploration of the Soul

purgatory / noun / an intermediate place or state of temporary suffering for expiatory purification

+ NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS +

Within the word “purgatory”, it is easy to envision condemned souls, torment and darkness. However, purgatory may also reflect the cyclic state in which we often rediscover or recreate ourselves anew from within our personal inflictions. Sometimes it is the necessary stage to exorcise ourselves from the haunting ghosts of the past. Perhaps it is the serene place of self reflection and realization.

From within this, the DAMNED Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness proudly presents an exhibition of powerful cinema called Purgatory – A Cinematic Exploration of the Soul.  Held on March 13th & 14th 2015 at Detroit’s Tangent Gallery, Purgatory will present approximately 90 minutes of short films of introspective, emotive and/or enlightened subject matters from filmmakers worldwide.  This is not an industry-focused film festival, but a tributary showcase of the often redemptive films from the filmmaker’s personal collections.

NOW FEATURING…THE PURGATORY BAZAAR – Come in early before the show and visit the Purgatory Bazaar featuring over a dozen local artists from the DAMNED Exhibition selling their own original art, prints and merchandise.  Help support local artists!

Admission is $10 ($5 matinee Sat at 5pm), which includes a coupon for $5 off any $25+ purchase in the bazaar and free popcorn.  This event is 18+ due to mature film and art content.  A cash bar is also present for alcoholic and non-alcoholic pleasures.

DETROIT, WILD CITY

Director: Florent Tillon.
The automobile industry jumpstarted Detroit’s rise and made it the most industrialized city in the United States. But because of changes in American society and population demographics, the city lay deserted for decades and urban prairies complete with falcon, deer and coyote turning out the urban landscape in a B movie setting. Now an unexpected turn of events has created an environment where young people are moving back into the ruins of the former Detroit... are they a new kind of pioneer? Could this now be a way for America to be “rediscovered”?
