In Diafarabe, a village of the Macina region in Mali, a lavish Fula festival takes place at the same
time every year to honour the poet-herdsmen and their cattle returning from transhumance to
the vast Sahel plain. This is a unique moment when tales from time immemorial mingle with sung poems,
while the herdsmen’s and their cattle’s bodies seem to have been seized by the same kind of vertigo.
