My Berlin Top Ten Films

user
At a film festival that totals more than 250 feature films (not to mention an additional 250 features in the accompanying European Film Market), one can only skim the surface of an event as wide-ranging as the Berlinale. Film choices are often based on schedule availability....grabbing a screening in between meetings or making sure one is awake to catch the early morning press screenings of the Competition program. In a sense, one only gets a random taste of the very far-flung program...

Berlinale Jury Stands Up For Jafar Panahi

user
There was a conspicuous empty chair when the jury of the 61st Berlinale held its press conference on Thursday afternoon. Jury President Isabella Rossellini read a pronouncement that the empty chair was a symbolic gesture of support for Iranian director Jafar Panahi, who was invited to participate on the jury but was prevented from leaving his country. Panahi was sentenced last month to a six-year prison term and also received a ban from making movies for the next 20 years.   The...

When Gustav Met Sigmund

user
Films that feature well known figures from history are always intriguing, whether they reflect actual fact or are mere figments of the director's feverish imagination. In the delightfully dishy MAHLER ON THE COUCH, the filmmaking team of Percy Adlon (pere) and Felix Adlon (fils) have made  a delicious historical "did-it-ever-happen" that features such historical characters as the classical composer Gustav Mahler, the psychotherapist Sigmund Freud and the Bauhaus design foun...

Ham & The Piper complete

user
It's beena tremendous effort to finally finish Ham & The Piper. The film is magnificent and looks beautiful, thanks to the work of young Polish cinemtagrapher, Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz, a real talent for one so young. The music is wonderful too and the performances.... out of this world, especially Jeffery Kissoon in the lead. We've had some interest which is great before we head off into the festival circuit.   Check the film out on http://www.wix.com/hamandthepiper/movie ...
