Trento will host the festival of challenges.

ON THE WAY TOWARDS ANOTHER TRENTOFILMFESTIVAL

From 28 April to 8 May 2011 Trento will host the festival of challenges.

"How monotonous the face of the earth would be without the mountains" said Immanuel Kant. And how boring would the panorama of Italian cinema be without the TrentoFilmfestival, the oldest international festival of mountain films that on 31 January will begin its climb towards the 59th year.

"Don't look for a scaffolding to climb in the mountain, look for its soul", the Italian writer and alpinist Julius Kugy (1858-1944) advised those who decided to climb mountains. An adventure, with a movie camera, that investigates the spirit of the mountains, respecting their environment increasingly endangered by man. After all we are all "citizens of the mountains" and this was proved by the overbooking in the three opening nights of the Festival in 2010 and the over 40 per cent increase of the audiences at the film screenings.

The 59th Festival, in 2011, promises to be just as good. The Festival is looking for filmmakers from everywhere, born perhaps in the lowlands, but who are unable to resist when they hear about the scent of pines, snow and mysteries of a climb. The movie camera focuses on everything that reveals the arcane of the mountains.

You can download the rules and regulations and entry form of the 2011 Festival on the website http://www.trentofestival.it/. This is the first step in a journey that will end with the prestigious prizes awarded by an international jury.

These are the prizes:

The Gran Premio "Città di Trento" - Gold Gentian - for the best film of all, possessing high artistic qualities, that corresponds to the cultural aims pursued by the Festival.

The Italian Alpine Club Prize - Gold Gentian - for the best film on mountains and mountaineering.

The City of Bolzano Prize - Gold Gentian - for the best film on Alpine sport, exploration and adventure.

The Jury Prize.

The "Luciano Emmer" Prize awarded by the board of the National Union of Italian Film Journalists (SNGCI).

The two audience prizes (for a full-length film and a mountaineering film) and the three Silver Gentians (for the best artistic-technical contribution, the best medium-length film and the best short film) complete the official prize-list.

The rules and regulations of the 2011 MontagnaLibri are also on the website http://www.trentofestival.it/ .
