Save
Cinemas In Morocco is launching its first international conference on the
theme: « thinking about cinema differently » at the cannes festival!
The 64th edition of the
Cannes Festival promises to be rich in discoveries and is likely to delight
industry professionals and ultimately the general public by:
The cinema indutry is doing well
globally. Yet another reality is facing Africa today: cinemas are vanishing and
as of today, Moroccan cinemas are going through their deepest crisis ever with
a number of 37 cinemas compared to 280 thirty years ago!
For the first time, the
non-for-profit organization Save Cinemas in Morocco is invited to
the « Pavillon des Cinémas du
Monde ».
During a week, Save Cinemas in
Morocco will be federating, gathering, exchanging and sharing common values
at the « Pavillon des Cinémas du Monde » around the
defense and the promotion of cultural diversity around the world.
We are delighted to announce that Save
Cinemas in Morocco is organizing on May 19th 2011, 11.00am at
the « Pavillon des Cinémas du Monde » the first international
conference/debate on cinemas in Morocco on the theme: « Thinking about
cinema differently... »
Mirroring an ever changing world, a
cultural revolution is blowing on African cinema, in Morocco notably. It is
therefore with industry professionals from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Central
& Eastern Europe, and the Middle-East that the following questions will be
debated:
· Is there a resourceful
system for 3D films in Southern cinematographies?
· As far as the re-launch
of the investment in the cinema sector is concerned, who do we work with and
how do we do it?
· What are the current
means to enable films to circulate?
These are some of the many
questions for which Save Cinemas in
Morocco has been campaigning for more than 3 years now through the opening
of new perspectives and the implementation of grassroots actions with the
general public and more specifically with the Moroccan youth.
The cinema space has to become
again for the Southern cinematography this cultural specificity that allows the
identity to express itself and encourages local productions but this is most
importantly a heritage to preserve. For
the future this is an opening towards a dialogue with other cultures and
civilizations, a network to revive
to encourage the learning about
others and ourselves or maybe to pave a cultural path towards peace in a world
in movement.
The conference will be held with
different national and international speakers following the programme below:
