VOICES Festival (VOlogda Independent Cinema from European Screens) The first edition of VOICES Festival will take place from July 4th to 9th, 2010 in Vologda, Russia. This event aims at taking an interested and investigative look at current European cinema, and will be an opportunity to discover new talents. The particularity of this festival is its concept: it is a Workshop-Festival combining both competition and workshops. The Competition: The competition features first and second full-length films by European directors. Moreover, each year VOICES Festival highlights a European country; the first edition will celebrate French cinema which goes hand in hand with the ‘Year of France' program in Russia. The Workshop: The festival campus will be a platform for knowledge and exchange on diverse subjects thanks to the organisation of master-classes held by film professionals. Such round-table discussions will be opened to the public. VOICES Festival is an official event of the ‘Year of France' program in Russia, and is supported by the Governor of the Region of Vologda, the city of Vologda, the French Embassy in Russia and the Russian Ministry of Culture.
Held in Moscow, (3.-6.12.09) St. Petersburg (5.-11.12.09) and Novosibirsk (6.-13.12.09), the event, which was organised by German Films in collaboration with the Goethe Institut, was a complete success in all three cities. Although the festival had to be reduced by one day, the attendance of 5,000 was almost as many people as for the event last year.
At the opening film WHISKY WITH VODKA (WHISKY MIT WODKA), the 550-seater cinema in „Kino 35mm" was packed to burstin...
