Hillside Film Festival

The HILLSIDE FILM FESTIVAL announces

CALL FOR ENTRIES

The Hillside Film Festival is a vibrant, supportive, and engaged celebration of film culture. It focuses on showcasing short films by emerging young filmmakers based in Victoria (aged 30 and under), and provides a vital opportunity for young people to creatively express themselves through film, produce industry quality cinema, and reach wider audiences.

After a sell-out event in 2009 and 2010, the festival stands poised to become both a key indicator of future filmmaking talent in Victoria, and a major cultural event in its own right. The level of hype and exposure this festival has generated over the past few years has been significant, and each year we aim to continue striving forward – enriching our filmmaking industry.

Screened at the picturesque Cameo Outdoor Cinema in Belgrave the festival focuses on artistic excellence and innovation, encouraging great filmmaking across all genres, styles and budgets. We want to see local students and filmmakers competing with the best in the state; young people with a unique voice, a story to tell and a fresh approach to filmmaking. This year we are also launching our Music Video Category!

Confirmed judges this year include industry esteemed Glendyn Ivin and Paul Harris. Glendyn Ivin has carried off the Palme D’Or for Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival for his dramatic work ‘Cracker bag’, and Paul Harris has directed the St. Kilda Film Festival since 1999 and is a film critic who appears on radio stations 3RRR and 3AW.

This year filmmakers are competing for a stack of cash and awards including a $1,000 cash prize from
The Upwey & District Community Bank Group, a prize pack from Madman Entertainment, and the winner of the Under 18 Category will earn a place in the Open Channel Young Filmmakers Holiday Workshop. Selected films will also feature on the small screen, presented on Foxtel’s Aurora Community Channel as part of Youth Week 2011.

To enter: Films must be 15 minutes or less, the filmmaker must be from Victoria and under 30.
