Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Pristina

Trulichka

Director: Jean Counet.
Time seems to have stopped in the village of Pededze in northeast Latvia. Animals are making noise, the wind is sighing and a wrinkly old lady, leaning on a curved walking cane, is chasing chickens out of the stable. But time has not stopped: on the contrary. Time is passing and Latvia has gone through some drastic changes during the past fifteen years. Trulichka is a portrayal of the life in Pededze village. There the old and new generations live side by side. Old folks reminisce over the good old Soviet times, lamenting the new life and unemployment following the fall of socialism. Some of their relatives have stayed behind Russian borders and without a visa they can’t go see each other. As to the youth of EU times, they don’t feel any need to visit their former motherland. Trulichka is a warm and humane depiction of the old making way for the new, and also of their mutual harmony in today’s Latvia, living under winds of change.

Kosovo Film Festival

In Kosovo Film Festival will be running local projects, productions, neighboring countries, as well as productions of some european countries. Eligible for the competition will be featured movies, and in outside competition program will also show short films and documentaries. Films that will be applying to compete in the third edition of film festival will first be selected by the jury selection, chosen by the Board of the Festival. In Kosovo Film Festival several awards will be given for the most important components of filmmaking. In addition to awards for films presented at the festival, also will be given award for a life achieving. Every night after the screenings there will be lectures and debates regarding the movie shown. In the debate will attend the film maker to display, and critique other artists. You can also join the public, with different questions.
Lectures and debates will follow each screening, with the panel participation of the respective film-makers, and various critics and other artists. The floor will be open to everyone attending.

Based on the achievements of world cinema and the development that the seventh art has seen, we are committed to continue encouraging and supporting film projects and people involved in this art. The best way to accomplish such a commitment is to carry on with the Kosovo Film Festival. Numerous short and feature films have seen the light in Kosovo in the course of recent years – a reality compelling enough to justify the continuation of the festival bearing in mind the need for criticism and evaluation. In this regard, encouragement and support of film-makers is essential.

The main purpose of the festival is evaluation of film in Kosovo and on the region during the last two years and encouragement of film houses and productions, so that this art form continues to contribute to the overall cultural context. Further on, with the evaluation and criticism that this festival will afford to creators, the purpose is to show that deserving an award such as the one of this Festival requires work. We hope this will serve as a motivation to further creation in this field in our country.

A new thing to the third edition of festival is the invitation of regional and international productions to enter the competition. Several productions outside of Kosovo have been contacted and will honor the “Hyjnesha në Fron” Film Festival with their participation. Moreover, in the third edition of the festival, apart from short and feature films, other genres will also be included.

The deadline for submission of film projects, both local and international productions, is set between 10.03.2010 thru 30.10.2010.
The Festival begins on November 20, until the 26th, in Gjilan.

Film selection will be made by three jury members, a board member and the director of the Film Festival. For the awards a five-member jury will decide  - including two members with no voting right.
